Bus from Jardin to Salento | All you need to know

By Connected Horizons

If after spending a couple of days strolling around Jardin and are now looking to find a way to visit Salento’s wax palm valley, then this is the right post for you! Here follows a detailed article on how to move from Jardin to Salento all using local buses.

JARDIN TO RIOSUCIO
20’000COP | 2h45min | 52km

The only transport option between these two cities is with the company Cotransio (fare above) which has a bus at 8am leaving from Jardin every day (a 2pm bus is also run but if you take this you won’t be able to catch the other bus connections). The road that connects these two towns goes up on to the mountains and the head back down to the valleys of the Eje Cafetero.

The winding route is quite an experience to do because for the whole trips, the landscape views will be simply amazing ! This trip also include a short piss-stop at a tiny restaurant-shop located in the middle of nowhere in the mountains!

RIOSUCIO TO PEREIRA
17’500COP | 3h30min | 110km

***UPDATE (January 2019): There is now a new direct bus connecting Riosucio to Salento (28’000COP) leaving daily at around 12.30-1pm and taking 4-4.5h.***

The bus terminal of Riosucio tend to be full of buses that can bring you to any of the following destinations: Jardin, Pereira, Medellin, Manizales and Cali.

Less frequent buses : to Jardin three times per day at 20’000COP (8am, 12pm, 2pm) and to Manizales seven times per day at 12’500COP (5.45am, 7.20am, 9.00am, 10.20am, 12.20pm, 2pm and 4.45pm).

More frequent buses : to Pereira every 30min at 17’500COP, to Medellin every 1h at 25’000COP and to Cali every 2h at 40’000COP. These run from 5.30am to 5.30pm.

The route from Riosucio to Pereira is a pretty relaxed journey with medium-sized buses belonging to the company Cootransoccidente which are very comfy and also have screens, should you wish to watch a movie.

PEREIRA TO SALENTO
7’500COP | 1h | 36km

Once again the only option from Pereira to Salento are small 20-seater microbus operated by the company Expreso Alcala (fare above) that goes back and forth from Salento pretty much every hour from 6am to 6pm . The bus will leave you just next to the firefighter headquarters located one block north from Salento’s terminal de transportes and will save you having to walk uphill to reach town center! This route has also pretty nice landscapes!

    Hi guys!
Thanks for the info, useful website! Just a quick question: You mention the new direct bus connecting Riosucio to Salento. We’d like to go the opposite direction (Salento -> Riosucio -> Jardin) but I can’t find any info regarding the schedule, even not about this new bus in general. Any ideas where to find? Thanks!!

Hi Aniek! Thanks for stopping by 🙂 Unfortunately these are chicken buses so finding reliable timings in the web is pretty hard, the most reliable thing would be to ask around at either Salento or Riosucio. That said, we opened a Tripadvisor thread(one of the last comments) where a user called AP! (the link to the profile) seems to know the latest timings. Maybe try asking him for precise information? Wish you good luck!

Great post and thanks for the info! My wife and I are heading to Jardin then Salento next week. Do any of these buses require reservations? Or is it safe to show up prior to the 8am departure and buy tickets then?
    Thanks again

Hi Marc! Thanks for stopping by! No need for reservation, just show up at a reasonable time before the bus leave and there shouldn’t be a problem getting a seat. In fact, most of the times seat are not even assigned. Good luck with your trip and don’t hesistate contact us if you need more info about the places 🙂

I love that I just found this thread. Thank you, Connected Horizons peeps, for posting about your experiences.

I am hoping to fly into Medellin. Spend a few days there and visiting surrounding towns. Then onto Jarin for a couple days and down to Salento. Flying back to Medellin from Armenia. A total of 9 days.

Marc – how did the bus ride from Jadin to Salento go for you in February? Any insights to add based on your experience?

      Thank you so much!

Hi Amy! Thanks for stopping by and we’re glad the post has been useful to you! 🙂 As far as we know, not much has changed in terms and the only big thing happening is the new direct bus that connect Riosucio to Salento! And if you haven’t done it already, on the Tripadvisor Forums you can check latest updates from people that have visited recently!

Hi, we will have a trip in salento for 3 days and then thought of having 2 full days in Jardin (include travel). We have a group of 5 people, and have 2 huge luggage, couple of carry one luggage. Would travelling from salento to Jardin be impeding with these luggages? I read your blog talking about microbuses and the 3 busses. Do they have luggage compartments?

    • Connected Horizons November 26, 2018 at 7:58 pm Reply

Hi John! Travelling with the luggages and carry-ons you mentioned should absolutely not be a problem. On both the first segment Jardin – Riosucio and the second segment Riosucio – Pereira of the trip you’ll be travelling on big buses with huge luggage compartments; even in the last segment, Pereira – Jardin, the 20-seater buses can store your luggage in the back or on the top so shouldnt be an issue either way.

Hopefully, you’ll enjoy Jardin and Salento as much as we did!!! They’re really beautiful destinations!

      Have a safe journey!
