I love my country but we don’t have this culture. In Guatemala Mayan culture is everywhere. Gomez P.

Guatemala is such a diverse country that spending a couple of months travelling through it will feel like exploring a concentrated pocket world full of bright colours. Follow the tracks of the ancient civilizations by making your way to the deep Guatemala rainforest to uncover the ruins of the city of Tikal.

Have a stroll around the fascinating colorful alleys of the old town center of Flores: an island away from the new city center. Spend the day visiting the largest waterfall in Central America and finally seeing the Queztal in Coban.

Spend days doing village-hopping around the beautiful Lake Atitlan and head over to the mountains in Xela (Quezaltenango) to hike volcanoes for breathtaking views.

Walk around the bustling chaotic Guatemala City but make sure not to miss the gorgeous streets of the old capital, Antigua, and its nearby climbable volcanoes.

Whether you wanna discover the jungle, hike volcanoes, relax by the lake or get lost in the guatemalan culture, Guatemala will have what you’re looking for!

Next Trip Bucket List

Visit Semuc Champey – This beauty made up of natural pools and huge cave to be visited at candlelight, can be a nice stop if you’re willing to endure the several hours of minivan to the place.

Explore Livingston & Rio Dulce – Black sand, friendly locals and a bit of Garifuna culture from the neighbouring Belize. Not a bad place for a couple of relaxing days!

Climb the Tajumulco – Being the biggest mountain/volcano in central america make it a challenge to be endorsed. At the time, our hike to the top of Santa Maria (and the short time we spent in Xela) made climbing to the top not for this trip but definitely for the next!

Climb and overnight on the Acatenango volcano – Climb this huge volcano, overnight to the top and see the smaller Fuego volcano exploding below at dawn. Due to latest eruption, we don’t know how safe this will be anymore!

Stroll around the Saturday market of Todos Santos Cuchumatán – On our trip we’ve seen plenty of markets but as many locals suggested (we only found out afterwards!) this saturday market is the perfect opportunity to see people wearing traditional clothing.
